RAD4(Marietta, OH, February 4, 2011) Caron Forensics is pleased to announce that its RAD2 and RAD4 products have received California’s Firearms Safety Device Certification. This certification recognizes the RAD products as designed to prevent children and unauthorized users from access to a firearm.

The state of California Department of Justice declared the RAD locking storage cabinets as certified according to Section 4108, Title 11, Division 5, Chapter 6 of the California Code of Regulations.  Certifications require successful testing by authorized third-party engineering firms.

California Penal Code Section 12088.2 mandates that all firearms sold in California be accompanied by a firearms safety device or proof of ownership, as required by law, which meets the minimal safety standards developed by the California Attorney General.

Designing a stealthy product that would safely store weapons from children and unauthorized users was the objective behind the RAD. With the trend toward gun ownership for home protection on the rise, Caron Forensics recognized the demand for a product that safely stores firearms along with other defense and safety items in a way that enables quick access in emergency situations.

"The RAD products are perfect for home defense weapons storage, especially for families with children," said Caron Chairman Steve Keiser. "All of the engineers who designed the RAD are parents with young children, and we were just as concerned with keeping the kids away from weapons as we were with protecting them from outsiders."

RAD2Once the RAD products were designed, Caron Forensics quickly proceeded to have them certified as safety devices as defined by California law.

RAD comes in a two sizes: the two foot RAD2 and four foot RAD4. The RAD’s mount on any flat surface, ideally in the space between a doorway and the ceiling, in a low traffic area, such as in a walk in closet or the family’s safe room. A selection of standard and optional accessories gives users a versatile platform from which they can customize the setup of the RAD to their own preferences.

"For anyone who lives in an apartment, has space limitations, or understands they won't have time to access a massive floor safe during an emergency, the RAD is a highly efficient and practical way to position and secure defensive weapons," Keiser said.
